Peter Durban
Peter Durban was born in Germany, eventually emigrated to Russia, and started in the food business before moving his family to Akron, Ohio. After opening his first meat and grocery store, he became part of the Volunteer Food Cooperative, which helped him expand into more stores over time.
Durban Foods grew into locations across Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Indiana. Peter sold the business in the late 1940s and moved the family to Southern California to restart the business as Durban Meats.
